Dosmoche festival celebrated in Ladakh

The festival was celebrated with week-long period of prayers and ritual at Liker monastery and marks the victory over evil forces.

Dosmoche festival was celebrated with religious and traditional fervor in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir in the third week of February 2015. The festival was celebrated with a week-long period of prayers and ritual at Liker monastery.

It is celebrated to mark the victory over evil forces and also to evade any natural disaster in the year ahead.


Dosmoche festival is a social and religious fair and was instituted by the Kings of Ladakh on the pattern of the famous Mon-Lam or Great Prayer ceremony of Lhasa. The festival is widely celebrated at the majestic Leh palace in Leh town and Liker monastery in lower Ladakh.

Dosmoche that is celebrated in half of February is one of the two New Year festivals of Ladakh region, the other is Losar.
