G Parameshwara resigns as Karnataka Home Minister

The Home Minister of Karnataka handed over his resignation to the state’s CM Siddaramaiah after Congress High Command suggested him to quit and focus on party matters in the view of the upcoming state assembly elections.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara resigned from his post on 1 June 2017. He is also the State Congress Committee chief.

He had offered to resign earlier during the day, as the Party High Command, which appointed him as the KPCC President for the second term in a row on 31st May, wanted him to quit and solely focus on party matters and on the preparations for the approaching 2018 Assembly elections.


 Karnataka Home Minister Resigns

Paramsehwara handed over his resignation letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on his arrival from Mysuru.

Speaking on the occasion, Parameshwara said that there was no dissatisfaction in the party over the High Command's move and that the name of the next Home Minister had yet not been discussed and it would be the prerogative of the Chief Minister.

Dr. Parameshwar has been the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president since 2010.

Further, the Congress Party has stated that the upcoming Karnataka state elections would be fought under the leadership of current Chief Minister K Siddaramaiah.

As part of the organisational mobilisation, senior leaders including ministers and legislators will take out a ‘political parikarma’ in 30 districts across the state to organise events and propagate the policy initiatives of the Siddharamaiah government since 2013.
