India has been elected to 3 UN ECOSOC bodies- Executive Board of UN Women, Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice- CCPCJ, and Executive Board of the World Food Programme.

In a major achievement, India on April 20, 2021, was elected to three United Nations Economic and Social Council bodies.

The news was shared by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN via Twitter where it mentioned that India has been elected to 3 UN ECOSOC bodies- Executive Board of UN Women, Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice- CCPCJ, and Executive Board of the World Food Programme.

India is a member of the UN Commission on Status of Women for a period of four years. From 2021 to 2025, The United Nations Commission on Status of Women is a body of the Economic and Social Council- ECOSOC.

About UN ECOSOC:

The United Nations Economic and Social Council is one of the six major organs of the UN. It is responsible for coordinating the social and economic fields of the organization, specifically in regards to the 15 specialized agencies, the five regional commissions under the jurisdiction, the eight functional commissions.

It also serves as a central forum to discuss the international social and economic issues and formulating policy recommendations addressed to the member states and the United States system.
