India team for West Indies Tour 2019: MS Dhoni has sought a two-month sabbatical from international cricket to serve his paramilitary regiment.

India team for West Indies Tour 2019: The BCCI selection panel led by MSK Prasad has announced three Indian squads for ODIs, T20Is and Tests for the upcoming West Indies tour 2019. Virat Kohli will continue to lead Team India despite earlier reports that the skipper would be rested for the limited-overs series. India will play 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 test series in West Indies, starting from August 3, 2019.

Virat Kohliu has made himself available for the full tour. Rohit Sharma will also play in all the three formats after he was brought back into the Test squad. Ravindra Jadeja has also been included in all the three Indian squads. Shikhar Dhawan, who was ruled out of the World Cup 2019 due to a thumb injury, has been declared fit for the West Indies tour. Dhawan has been included in the Indian ODI and T20 squad. The only notable absentee from all the three Indian squads is MS Dhoni.

India team for West Indies Tour 2019: Surprise player inclusions

Rishabh Pant has been included in the Indian ODI, T20I and Test squads for West Indies tour as the wicket-keeper, in place of MS Dhoni.

Wriddhiman Saha has been included in the Indian Test side after more than a year.  Saha played his last test against South Africa in Cape Town in January 2018. He was ruled out of the series after that due to shoulder injury. He underwent surgery for the same in August 2018.

Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey have also been included in the Indian ODI squad, as selectors look to solve India’s middle-order woes. Both the batsmen are currently representing India A in a 5 match ODI series in West Indies, which India leads by 3-1.

Besides them, two other India A players, pacer Navdeep Saini and leg spinner Rahul Chahar have received their maiden call for the senior team.  Saini has been included in the Indian ODI and T20 squad, while Chahar has been included in the T20I team.

Rahul Chahar’s cousin, Deepak Chahar, who previously played in one ODI and T20 for India, has also been picked for India’s T20 squad.

Hardik Pandya’s brother, left-arm spin bowling all-rounder Krunal Pandya has been included in the Indian T20 squad. Khaleel Ahmed, the left-arm pacer, has also been included in the Indian ODI and T20 squad.

India team for West Indies Tour 2019: Players rested

Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for India’s ODI and T20I matches against West Indies. Bumrah has been included for the two tests, which will be played from August 22.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been rested for the entire tour. Bhuvneshwar, who has been named for ODI and T20I squads, has been rested for the test series.

Yuzvendra Chahal has also been rested for India’s T20I matches and test series. Kuldeep Yadav, who has been included in ODI and test squads, has been left out from the T20I squad.

MS Dhoni rested: MS Dhoni is notably absent from the three Indian squads after the former skipper made himself unavailable for the tour. However, MS Dhoni ruled out reports of his retirement. As per BCCI sources, MS Dhoni has sought a two-month sabbatical from international cricket to fulfill his prior commitment to his paramilitary regiment. Dhoni holds the honorary post of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Territorial Army.
