Why celebrate IDPWD?

It is believed that many people do not know how many disabled people are there in their neighborhood. It is important for them to know their rights. They need the help of other people present in society to get good health and self-respect but usually, people do not do so. Therefore, World Disabled Day is observed to inform the general public about the actual condition of disabled people.

Background

The United Nations General Assembly declared the United Nations Decade for the Disabled from 1983 to 1992 to provide a goal for governments and organizations to implement the activities recommended in the World Program. After that, from 1992, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed every year on December 3.
