International Roma Day was celebrated on 8 April 2016 across Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

On this day the Roma from all over the world pay respect to the Roma victims during the World War II. The day celebrates Romani culture and raises awareness of the issues facing Romani people.

April 8 was declared International Roma Day in 1990 in the frames of the 4th World Roma Congress of the International Roma Union.

It is to honour the first significant meeting of the representatives of the Roma in the First Roma Congress which was held in London on 8 April 1971.

In 1992 at the proposal of the International Roma Union, the UN and the EU declared April 8 as the International Roma Day.
