Justice T S Thakur set to be the Chief Justice of India

Chief Justice H L Dattu on 4 November 2015 recommended Justice Teerth Singh Thakur to be the next Chief Justice of India.

Justice Thakur will take over as the 43rd chief justice of India. He will be appointed as the highest-ranking judge in the Supreme Court of India on 2 December 2015. He will retire on 4 January 2017.

The law ministry will forward the file of Justice Thakur’s appointment to the Prime Minister’s Office. His warrant of appointment will be issued once the President approves it.

Born on 4 January 1952, Thakur was a former acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court who later took over as Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court. On 17 November 2009, he was elevated to the Supreme Court of India.
