Krishna Chaudhary appointed as the Director General of ITBP

Krishna Chaudhary appointed as the DG of ITBP which was lying vacant since 1 January 2015 after retirement of Subhas Goswami. Chaudhary will be in office till June 2017.

Krishna Chaudhary was appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on 30 January 2015. Chaudhary, an IPS officer of 1979-batch Bihar cadre will be in office till June 2017.

At the time of appointment, he was working as the Director General of the Railway Protection Force.

His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chaudhary succeeded Subhas Goswami who retired on 31 December 2014. CRPF DG Prakash Mishra was holding the additional charge of the ITBP since the retirement of Subhas Goswami.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
Indo-Tibetan Border Police was raised on 24 October 1962. Initially, it was raised under the CRPF Act, 1949 however the Parliament in 1992 enacted the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force Act, 1992 and rules there under were framed in 1994.

ITBP is a specialized mountain force and most of the officers and men are professionally trained mountaineers and skiers.

Being the first responder for natural disaster in the Himalayas, ITBPF has been carrying out numerous rescue and relief operations.

Currently, ITBP is deployed on border guarding duties from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh covering 3488 km of Indo-China Border. It is also present on the manning Border Outposts on altitudes raging from 9000 feet to 18700 feet in the Western, Middle and Eastern Sector of the Indo-China Border.
