Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar launches software for 5 surveys

With the use of Information Technology, 30 to 40% of the time will be saved while conducting these surveys and an IT partner will also be roped in for the purpose.

Software for All India Surveys

The Union Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar on February 18, 2021, launched software applications for five all India surveys including on domestic workers and migrants.

During the launch, the Labour Minister also released the instruction manuals with the questionnaire for five All India Surveys that are being conducted by the Labour Bureau.

Labour Bureau is an attached office of the Ministry of Labour and Employment. It has been at the forefront in fulfilling the data needs of various stakeholders in the labour and employment field since 1920.

As per the Ministry, the result of these surveys will be declared by the government within seven to eight months, including the six months of fieldwork.

Significance of accurate data:

While addressing the launch, Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar highlighted that accurate data plays a significant role in policymaking and that in the absence of accurate data, one is not able to analyze the present situation and its future impact.

He added that with the use of Information Technology, 30 to 40% of the time will be saved while conducting these surveys and an IT partner will also be roped in for the purpose.

All India Survey on Migrant Workers

All Indian Survey on Domestic Workers

All India Survey on Employment Generated by Professionals

All India Survey on Employment Generated in Transport Sector

All India Quarterly Establishment based Employment Survey

Objectives of 5 All India Surveys

All India Survey on Domestic Workers:

The objective of the survey will be to estimate the proportion of the Domestic Workers in the workforce by major states and All India and the percentage distribution of the households that employ them by the significant socio-demographic key characteristics.

All India Survey on Migrant Workers:

The survey aims at finding the estimated number of migrant workers in the country. It will also be collecting information on their working conditions, living conditions as well as other socio-economic conditions.

All India Survey on Employment Generated by Professionals:

The objective of this survey is essentially two-fold. Firstly to estimate the total number of active-professionals in India and secondly, capturing the employment generated by these professionals.

All India Survey on Employment Generated in Transport Sector:

The survey on the Employment generated in Transport Sector will be able to assess the employment that has been generated in the Transport Sector of India.

All India Quarterly Establishment based Employment Survey:

The objective of the survey is to measure the relative alterations in the employment situation over the successive quarters. The changes will be measured in the segment of the non-farm economy by covering the eight important sectors of India’s economy.
