Coronavirus Lockdown: Here’s List of States and Cities under Corona Curfew / Lockdown - What will be open?

Coronavirus Lockdown: The Nagaland government has announced a 7-day total lockdown from May 14, 2021. The Telangana government has also announced a 10-day lockdown from May 12, 2021.

Coronavirus Lockdown: The Nagaland government has announced a 7-day total lockdown from May 14, 2021. The Telangana government has also announced a 10-day lockdown from May 12, 2021. 

The Uttarakhand government has also imposed a state-wide lockdown till May 18, 2021 in the wake of rapidly increasing COVID-19 cases. Haryana state government has also extended the COVID-19 lockdown till May 17, 2021.  Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also extended the lockdown in the national capital for another week till May 17th. He said that the lockdown will be stricter than before and the Delhi Metro will also remain closed during the time.

Puducherry has also announced a complete 14-day lockdown in the union territory to contain the spread of COVID-19. Uttar Pradesh has also extended its curfew till May 17th. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced a complete lockdown in the state from 6 am on May 8, 2021 to May 16, 2021 in wake of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the second wave. 

Besides these states ,  several others facing similar situations have resorted to local restrictions to break the chain of transmission and reduce the load on the medical infrastructure as the second wave of COVID-19 wreaks havoc across the nation.

1. Delhi Lockdown

In an effort to check the rising COVID-19 cases,

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on May 9th extended the lockdown in the state for another week till May 17. He said that the Delhi Metro services will be suspended during the period. 

The state has been under a lockdown since April 20th in the wake of the second wave of COVID-19.  The Chief Minister said that in the last 2-3 days, the positivity rate has come down to 23 per cent from 35 per cent.

He said that the oxygen situation has improved in Delhi and informed that excellent arrangements have been made in Delhi government schools to undertake the third phase of vaccination drive.

2. Maharashtra Curfew

Maharashtra government has extended all COVID-19 restrictions till May 15, 2021. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had earlier announced complete curfew in the state from 8pm on April 14, 2021 till 7 am on May 1, 2021. Initially, essential services were allowed between 7 am and 8 pm.

However, on April 20, 2021, the state government announced that all groceries, vegetable shops, fruit vendors, dairies, bakeries, confectionaries, all type of food shops, shops related to farm produce and pet food shops will be open only between 7 to 11 AM. Home delivery though will be allowed between 7 am to 8pm. 

3. Uttar Pradesh Curfew

The Uttar Pradesh government also extended the curfew in the state till May 17th. 

What will be open?

Only essential services will be allowed.

What will be shut?

All shops, malls, restaurants, all  offices and religious places will remain shut in the state during the lockdown.

4. Kerala Lockdown

The Kerala state government on May 6, 2021 announced a full lockdown in the state from 6 am on May 8 to May 16 in the view of rising cases in the second wave of Covid-19.  The state had earlier imposed strict restrictions that prevented unnecessary travel and reduced attendance in offices.

However, health experts advised the state government to impose a complete lockdown as the current measures were failing to bring down the state’s Covid-19 graph.

5. Jharkhand Lockdown

Jharkhand government has extended the lockdown-like restrictions till May 13th amid surge in COVID cases. Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren had previously April 28, 2021 extended the duration of 'Swasthya Suraksha Saptah' till 6 am on May 6th in the wake of COVID-19 infection.  The state government had first announced lockdown from April 22nd till April 29th with some exemptions.

What will be open?

•All services will be allowed.

•All religious places will remain open but the gathering of devotees will not be allowed. 

•Mining, agricultural & construction activities will also be allowed. 

6. Telangana Curfew

The Telangana government has announced a 10-day lockdown from May 12, 2021. 

What will be open?

•Only essential services will be allowed during curfew such as pharmacies, diagnostic labs and hospitals.

•Print and electronic media, internet services, telecommunications, broadcasting and cable services, IT and IT enabled services, petrol pumps, LPG, CNG, petroleum and gas outlets, power generation, transmission and distribution, water supply and sanitation, cold storage and warehousing services, private security services, and production units or services which require continuous process have been exempted from the nigh curfew. 

•E-commerce delivery will be allowed for all goods. 

•Certain category of people will be allowed to move around after 9 pm including media person, healthcare professionals, essential service providers and paramedics and providers of other hospital services. 

7. Andhra Pradesh Curfew

Andhra Pradesh on April 23, 2021 announced night curfew from April 24 to curb spread of COVID-19. The state with 11,766 new infections crossed one million COVID-19 cases mark on the day. 

8. Assam Restrictions

As per latest guidelines, all market places in Assam except chemist shops, shops in malls and weekly markets will close by 6pm. Besides this, not more than 20 people can attend funerals. 

9. Goa Curfew

Goa government has imposed curfew for 15 days from May 9th to contain COVID-19 pandemic.  The state had earlier imposed COVID19 restrictions from 6 am on May 3rd till 7 am on May 10, 2021. Only essential services and industries were allowed during the period.

Weekly markets

 Casinos, bars, sports complexes, river cruises, gyms, schools, colleges and weekly markets will remain closed.

Public transport will remain shut.

10. Haryana Lockdown

Haryana government on May 9, 2021 extended the lockdown for another week from 5 am on May 10th till 5am on May 17th. The state will be observing this period as Mahamari Alert-Surakshit Haryana. 

What will be allowed?

Gathering of no more than 11 people will be allowed, including in weddings and funerals. 

Marriages will be allowed to be conducted only at home and Courts with a maximum limit of 11 persons and no movement of 'barat' procession will be allowed.

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij stated that strict action will be taken against the people who flout the COVID restrictions.

A lockdown was already in effect in Haryana from May 3rd till May 10th.  The state had also extended COVID-19 restrictions till May 31st. During this time, all colleges, coaching institutions, ITIs, libraries, training institutes whether govt or private will remain closed. All Anganwadi centers and creches under Women and Child Development Department will also remain closed in the state. 

11. Punjab Curfew

The Punjab Government on May 2, 2021 made a COVID-19 negative report or a vaccination certificate mandatory for anybody entering the state. The state government has also said that only two passengers will be allowed to travel in a four-wheeler and pillion rider than a family member will not be allowed on two-wheeler. 

The state government had earlier decided to impose a night curfew  from 8pm to 5 am through the state in the wake of sharp rise in COVID-19 cases.

What will be open?

Restaurants and eating places in hotels will be allowed to do takeaways on all days of the week except Sunday.

What is closed?

All gyms, bars, coaching institutes and cinemas will be shut till April 30 .

Public gatherings of over 20 people including in weddings and funerals have been banned.

12. Rajasthan Lockdown

Rajasthan Government has decided to impose a complete lockdown in the state from 5 am on May 10th till 5 am on May 24, 2-21. All marriage functions have also been suspended till May 31st.

What will be open?

• Only registered marriages will be allowed, attended by not more than 11 people till May 31st.

• Labourers working under NEGRA can continue to work, following social distancing norms.

• Only workers permitted will be allowed to load or unload inter state and intra-state goods.

• In case of emergency with a COVID patient admitted to a hospital, only one attendant will be allowed except in case of medical emergencies.

What will not be allowed?

• Marriage functions, DJs and marriage processions.

• Marriage gardens, halls, hotels will be closed for marriage functions. The owners will have to return the advance amount paid by the parties.

• All places of worship to be closed. People urged to conduct religious rituals at home.

• No inter-district, inter-city, city to villages or villages to city travel will be allowed except in case of medical emergencies. 

 • All public transport including buses, tempos, tractors, jeeps will not be allowed during this time.

13.  Gujarat Curfew

• The Gujarat Government on April 27, 2021 imposed curfew in nine more cities from 8 pm to 6 am. These cities include Porbandar, Navsari, Himmatnagar, Palanpur, Valsad, Viramgam, Veraval, Botad and  Chhota Udaipur. The order will come into effect from April 28th and will stay in place till May 5th. 

• The state had earlier imposed curfew in 20 cities, including 8 major cities- Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Gandhinagar, Amreli, Anand, Nadiad, Mehasana, Morbi, Dahod, Patan, Godhra, Bhuj, Gandhidham, Bharuch, and Surendranagar.

What will be closed?

Shopping and Entertainment places: Malls, shopping complexs, cinema halls, auditoriums, gyms, swimming pools, water parks, public gardens, salon, spas & other amusement activities will be closed in all 29 cities.

APMCs: All APMCs will be closed, only APMCs associated with vegetables & fruits can be continued.

Religious place: Public access to religious places across the state will be closed. Only administrators and priests will be able to perform puja.

What will be allowed?

Public bus transport will continue in the entire state with 50 percent capacity.

Weddings/ Funerals: A maximum of 50 people will be allowed at weddings and 20 people at funerals. 

14. Karnataka Lockdown

Karnataka has imposed a strict lockdown from May 10 till May 24 due to a frightening rise in COVID-19 cases and deaths in the state. The state already had a 'corona curfew' since April 27 and it was scheduled to end on May 12.

What will be closed?

• All hotels, pubs and bars, shops and commercial establishments will remain closed.

• Buses and Metro rail would not operate.

• Schools, colleges, educational institutes and coaching centres will remain shut.

• Cinema halls, shopping malls, gymnasium, stadia, auditoria, swimming pools, parks, entertainment parks, clubs, theatres and community halls will remain closed.

• All kinds of gathering including social, political, sports, entertainment, educational and religious gatherings will be banned.

• Ban on the entry of people in religious places.

What will be allowed?

• Only essential goods and services like food, medicine, milk, fruits and vegetables will be open from 6 am to 10 am.

• Movement of people dealing with health emergencies will be allowed.

• Movement of essential goods and medical equipment will be allowed. 

• All state/ central  departments dealing with essential services will operate.

• All flights and trains would run as per schedule.

• Autorickshaws and taxis will be allowed to take passengers during emergencies.

• Hotels and restaurants would be allowed only to give take way parcels

15. Odisha 14-day Lockdown

 The Odisha State Government has announced a 14-day lockdown in the state from May 5th to May 19th. The state government had earlier imposed a night curfew in 10 districts-Sambalpur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Nawarangpur, Jharsuguda, Nuapada, Malkangiri and Koraput. The night curfew has now been extended to all urban areas of the state.

16. Chhattisgarh Lockdown

Chhattisgarh government has announced a complete lockdown in eight districts including capital Raipur, Durg, Balodabazar, Koriya, Jashpur, Balod, Bemetra and Rajnandgaon. During the lockdown, the border of the district is completely sealed and all shops, including commercial establishments and liquor shops will be closed. Only essential services and medical stores will be open. 

17. Jammu and Kashmir Corona Curfew 

Jammu and Kashmir has imposed 'Corona curfew' in 11 districts of the Union Territory from 7pm on April 29, 2021 till 7am on May 3rd. The UT had earlier imposed a 34-hour curfew from 8pm on Saturday till 6 am on Monday, April 26th to contain the spread of the infection. The state already has a night curfew in eight of its districts that have seen a surge in new infections- Srinagar, Jammu, Udhampur, Anantnag, Kathua, Baramulla, Budgam and Kupwara. 

18. Chandigarh Weekend Lockdown

The Chandigarh administration has announced a weekend lockdown from 10 pm on Friday till 5 am on Monday. Only essential services such as home delivery of food, medical stores will be operational during this period. 

19. Nagaland Curfew

Night curfew has been imposed in Dimapur district of Nagaland from 8 pm to 5 am from April 23rd. 

20. Tripura Night Curfew

Tripura government has imposed a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am in Agartala Municipal Corporation area for an indefinite period from April 22n.

21. Himachal Pradesh Lockdown

Himachal Pradesh has announced a 10-day lockdown from May 7 to May 16 to check spread of COVID-19. The state had earlier imposed curfew in 4 districts of the State - Kangra, Una, Solan and Sirmour from 10 pm to 5 am from midnight of 27th April to 10th May.

The state has also decided to make RTPCR tests within 72 hrs mandatory for all people visiting the State. Those who have not undergone will have to remain in home quarantine/isolation for 14 days. They would have the option of getting themselves tested 7 days after arrival and if the test comes negative, they do not have to remain in quarantine. 

22. Tamil Nadu Curfew

Tamil Nade Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced a total 14-day lockdown in the state from 4 am on May 10 to 4 am on May 24, 2021. 

What will be open?

• Covid vaccination centres.

• Necessary state departments like Health, Secretariat, Revenue and disaster management, police, fire, prison, forests, local municipal administration, women and social welfare.

• Hotels and restaurants will open from 6 am to 10 am, 12 pm to 3 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm for takeaways only.

 • Tea shops will also operate till noon.

• Maximum 50 people will be allowed to participate in marriages and 20 in funerals.

What will not be open?

• Private and public bus transport, taxis, cabs, autos will not operate.

• People will not be allowed to travel for marriages, funerals or another emergency without proper records.

• Salons, spas, beauty parlours will not be allowed.

• Entertainment and amusement parks, recreation clubs and all bars will also not be allowed to operate.

23. Assam

The Assam Government on April 27, 2021 imposed a night curfew in the entire state from 8pm to 5am with immediate effect till May 1st. 

24. Uttarakhand Lockdown

The Uttarakhand government on May 9, 2021 imposed a state-wide lockdown till May 18th due to rapidly increasing COVID-19 cases in the state. State Cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal said that that state government has decided to impose 'COVID Curfew' from 6 am on May 11 till 6 am on May 18 to contain the spread of the disease. 

What will be allowed?

• Only essential services will be allowed during this period.

• The shops will only be open from 7 am to 10 in the state except on May 10th, when they will be open only till 1 pm.

• Weddings also will be allowed but with a maximum attendance of only 20 people. 

• Interstate movement will be allowed but vehicles will not be allowed to take more than 50 per cent of passengers.

• All Interstate travellers will have to produce negative RT-PCR results not older than 72 hours.

• The people of Uttarakhand coming from outside will have to undergo 7-day isolation.

• All those travelling for vaccination will be exempted from the ban for but they will have to show registration.

25. Bihar Night Curfew

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on May 4, 2021 announced a lockdown in the state till May 15th.  Bihar had earlier announced new COVID-19 guidelines, under which night curfew has been imposed from 6pm to 6am. All shops have been directed to close at 4pm. 

Under the new guidelines, only 50 people have been allowed in wedding ceremony and 20 people have been allowed in funerals. Further, all weddings have to conclude by 10pm and no DJs will be allowed during these celebrations. 

All offices have also been mandated to close by 4 pm and operate with just 25 per cent attendance. 

26. Madhya Pradesh Janata Curfew

Madhya Pradesh has extended the Janata Curfew till May 15th. MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has requested to halt all activities and defer weddings till May 15th. He stressed upon the need for strict adherence to Janata curfew urged to stop the work of MNREGA in the villages where there is a single corona patient.

The Chief Minister had earlier decided to extend the corona curfew in the state till May 7, 2021 to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission. The corona curfew was previously imposed in several districts of the state including prominent cities such as capital Bhopal and Indore till May 3rd. 

The state has also decided to suspend bus services to Uttar Pradesh from 29th April till 7th May.

27. Leh Weekend Curfew

A weekend COVID Curfew has been imposed across Leh district from 9pm on April 30th till 5am on May 3rd. This was announced by the UT's Administration. 

28. Manipur

Manipur state government has imposed COVID19 restrictions in whole of Greater Imphal for the next 7 days.

What will be open?

Only essential services will be allowed.

Grocery and milk shops will be open only from 6am to 10am.

29. Andhra Pradesh

A partial curfew has been imposed in Andhra Pradesh for the next 14 days starting from May 5, 2021.

30. Sikkim

Lockdown-like restrictions have been imposed in Sikkim as well from May 6, 2021 till May 16. All borders of the state will be sealed during this time. 

31. West Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also announced certain restrictions to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state. She has ordered for random checking in inter-state buses and made RT-PCR negative report not older than 72 hours mandatory for all passengers including of train services.The West Bengal CM further stated that journalists, hawkers and transporters will be given priority in administering the first dose of the vaccine. 

What will be open besides essential services?

Private offices: They will be allowed to function only with 50 percent staff. Work from home system has been advised.

Jewelery Shops: They will remain open from 12 pm to 3 pm. 

Restaurants: Home delivery to be encouraged.

Banks: The banks have been allowed to operate from 10 am to 2 pm. 

32. Puducherry 14-day Lockdown

Puducherry on May 8, 2021 announced a complete 14-day lockdown from midnight of May 10th to contain the spread of coronavirus in the union territory. 

What will be closed?

• All beaches, gardens and parks will be closed for the public on all days.

• Gathering and congregation in any form will be strictly prohibited.

• All social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural or festival related gatherings shall be prohibited in both open and closed spaces.

What will be open?

• All essential services will be permitted with terms and conditions.

The provision stores, vegetable shops and shops selling food, groceries, meat, fish animal fodder will • be permitted to open till 12pm without air-conditioning facility. 

33. Nagaland

The Nagaland state government has announced a one week total lockdown across the state from from 6pm on May 14th till May 21st. The decision was taken  after the High Powered committee meeting on COVID-19 in Kohima. 

What will be open?

• Only essential services including agricultural activities will be exempted from the lockdown.

• The Government departments will continue to open with a core team formed by the heads of department.

• Construction activities will also continue, the contractors and the firms will be responsible for ensuring adherence to all COVID-19 SOPs among the workers.
