Newly elected BJP legislator Govind M Rathod died on 27 October 2014 following a massive heart attack. He was elected as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Mudkhed Assembly in Nanded district of Maharashtra in October 2014.
Rathod passed away while he was travelling by the Devgiri Express to come to Mumbai for the scheduled BJP Legislature Party meeting scheduled on 28 October 2014.
Political impact of Govind M Rathod death
In the current political situation, the sudden death of Govind M Rathod gave a blow to the BJP which is struggling to cobble up a coalition government or form a minority government in Maharashtra with external support.
With the death of Govind M Rathod, the strength of BJP legislators in Maharashtra was reduced to 121. This will now demand at least 23 votes in favour of BJP for achieving the simple majority of 145 in the 288-member state Assembly.
