Manna Dey, the legendary singer died at 94

Manna Dey, the legendary singer died on 23 October 2013 in Bangalore hospital. He was 94 years old. He was treated for respiratory illness died of cardiac arrest. He is survived by his daughters Shuroma and Sumita.

About Manna Dey

• He was born in the year 1919
• His original name was Prabodh Chandra Dey but he was nicknamed Manna
• He sang many songs in different languages like Malayalam, Kannada, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Hindi, Assamese, Punjabi and Bhojpuri

Awards Given to Manna Dey

• In 1970 he won National Film Award     Best Male Playback Singer for the Hindi film Mere Huzoor. The same year he also won National Award as Playback singer for the Bengali film Nishi Padmo      
• In the year 1971 he also won National Award as Playback singer for the Hindi Film Mera Naam Joker and this year he also won the Padmasree Award by the Government of India
• In 1985, he won Lata Mangeskar Award; he was awarded by Government of Madhya Pradesh
• In 1988 he won the Michale Sahittyo Puraskar and was awarded by Renaissance Sanskritik Parishad, Dacca
• In 1990, Mithun Fans Association gave him the Shyamal Mitra Award     
• In 1991, Shree Khetra Kala Prakashika, Puri awarded him with Sangeet Swarnachurr Award       
• In 1993, he was awarded with P.C. Chandra Award and this was given to him by the P.C. Chandra Group & others
• In the 1999 he was awarded by the Kamala Devi Roy Award and was given by Kamala Devi Group
• In the year 2001, he was awarded Anandalok Award by the Anandabazar Group
• In 2002 he was awarded with the Yesudas Award Special Jury award for outstanding performance in music
• In 2003 he was awarded with the Alauddin Khan Award by the Government of the West Bengal
• He was awarded with the National Award as Playback singer in the year 2004 by the Govt. of Kerala
• In 2004 he was also awarded by the D Lit Honour by the Rabindra Bharati University          
• He was awarded with the Life Time Achievement Award by the Government of Maharashtra in the year 2005
• The same year in 2005 he also received the Padmabhusan Award by the Government of India
• In 2007 he received the First Akkshaya Mohanty Award by the Government of Orissa
• In 2007 he was given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award from Government of India
