MO Garg was on 5 February 2015 appointed as the Director General of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). Prior to his present posting, he was Director in CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), Dehradun.
Born on 17 September 1954, Garg did B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Nagpur University and M.Tech from IIT Kanpur. He completed his Ph.D. from University of Melbourne, Australia in the area of solvent extraction.
He began his career by working with the Engineers India Limited (EIL) in 1976 where he used his expertise to commercialize large number of technologies related to solvent extraction. Presently, Garg has 37 years of experience in the refining and petrochemical industry.
He has published over 213 papers and has 26 patents to his credit.
