Nandan Nilekani resigned as chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India.

Nandan Nilekani resigned as chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on 13 March 2014. Nilekani joined the Congress Party on 10 March 2014 and he is contesting from the Bangalore South constituency in Lok Sabha polls.

Nandan Nilekani, Co-founder of Infosys left the company in 2007 and he had taken charges as head of UIDAI, Aadhar programme.

About Unique Identification Authority of India

• Aadhar is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the UIDAI on behalf of the Government of India under Aadhar Programme. Aadhar number will serve as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in India.

• Aadhar programme comes under the Planning Commission headed by the Prime Minister.
