Narendra Kumar Verma was selected as Managing Director of ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) by Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on 21 May 2014.
He succeeded Dinesh K Sarraf who was elevated as Chairman and Managing Director of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in March 2014.
At the time of selection, Verma (55) was serving the OVL’s parent company, ONGC as the director for exploration.
Holding a master’s degree in applied geology and M Tech in petroleum exploration, he played an important role in management of exploration activities in frontier basin, Assam-Arakan basin and Mumbai offshore
He also holds a MBA degree in Finance and was involved in assessing the offshore blocks in Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, Qatar, North Caspian and Iran

ONGC Videsh Ltd. (OVL) is a Miniratna Schedule “A” Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) of the Government of India under the administrative control of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. It is a wholly owned subsidiary and overseas arm of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), the flagship national oil company (NOC) of India. The primary business of OVL is to prospect for oil and gas acreages outside India, including exploration, development and production of oil and gas. It owns participating Interests in 32 oil and gas assets in 16 countries and contributes to 12% and 7 % of oil and natural gas production of India respectively. In terms of reserves and production, OVL is the second largest petroleum Company of India, next only to its parent ONGC.
