The broader 50-share NSE Nifty closed at its 29-month high on 12 July 2010. The Nifty closed at 5383, gaining 30.55 points or 0.55per cent. The last time Nifty closed above this level was on 5 February 2008 when it had ended at 5483.90 points. Also it ended at a three-month high after briefly crossing the psychological 18000-mark during intra-day trade. The BSE Sensex ended at 17937 after gaining 103 points or 0.58per cent. The share price of Infosys closed at Rs 2895 after hitting a 52 week high of Rs 2911.55. The Asian market remained on firm footing thereby adding strength to the domestic market. India’s volatility index which is a measure of markets expectation of volatility in the near term dropped 1.48per cent to 19.91. The robust numbers were seen on 12 July, a day prior to the first quarter results of IT bellwether Infosys Technologies.
