Odisha Administrative Tribunal quashed 27% SEBC quota

Odisha Administrative Tribunal on 19 December 2013 quashed the provision of 27 percent reservation under Odisha Reservation of Posts and Service (Socially and Educationally Backward Classes) Act, 2008 for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) candidates in public employment.

The decision was taken by the tribunal that comprised Chairman Justice, Nityananda Prusty and the administrative member, SN Das. The tribunal has directed the Odisha government and Odisha Public Service Commission to abide by the stipulation of the Supreme Court not to exceed 50 per cent ceiling in respect of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and SEBCs in public employment.

Orissa Administrative Tribunal     

The Orissa Administrative Tribunal was set up during 1986 for quick re-dressal of grievances of State Government employees regarding their service matters.

Besides the Principal Bench at Bhubaneswar, one regular Bench of O.A.T. at Cuttack and two Circuit Benches at Sambalpur and Berhampur are functioning. The Tribunal deals with original applications, transferred applications and miscellaneous petitions.
