Paul van Ass appointed as coach of National Men’s Hockey team

Former Dutch National Hockey team coach Paul van Ass was on 30 January 2015 appointed as the head Coach of Indian men's hockey team. He succeeded Terry Walsh of Australia.

Former Dutch National Hockey team coach Paul van Ass was on 30 January 2015 appointed as the head Coach of Indian men's hockey team. He succeeded Terry Walsh of Australia.

He was appointed as the head coach during a special selection committee meeting of Sports Authority of India (SAI) headed by Secretary, Ministry of Sports and interim Director General of SAI Ajit Sharan.

Besides, New Zealand's Anthony Thornton was appointed as the coach of National women’s hockey team. She replaced Neil Hawgood of Australia.

Both Van Ass and Thornton were awarded a three-year contract till 2018. India will host the 2018 men's Hockey World Cup.

The Indian Men's hockey team was playing without a Coach since November 2014 when the then Head Coach Terry Walsh resigned under controversial circumstances.
