IFFI 2019: Rajinikanth was honoured with the special ‘Icon of Golden Jubilee of IFFI’ award at the opening ceremony of the 50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 20, 2019.
French actress Isabelle Hupert was also conferred with the 'Lifetime Achievement award' for a 'foreign artiste' on the occasion. Isabelle Hupert is one of the most famous and popular French actors of her generation and she had won the Golden Globe in 2016 for her performance in ‘Elle’.
To commemorate the 50th edition of the International Film Festival, 50 films by women directors will be showcased at the event. Overall, 200 foreign films have been received for the festival, among whom 24 are in the race for Oscar nominations.

IFFI 2019 Icon of Golden Jubilee award
Rajinikanth was conferred the special Icon award by Amitabh Bachchan in the presence on Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar and Goa CM Pramod Sawant. The special award has been constituted this year by the Government of India.
The award was presented to Rajinikanth in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Indian cinema in the past decades. Rajinikanth is one of the most acclaimed actors and his contribution to the Indian cinema in over four decades is unmatched. The actor is popular not only in the south film industry but also in Bollywood.
The legendary actor dedicated his award to all the producers, directors and technicians, who worked alongside him in the realm of films and supported him throughout his career.
IFFI 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award
French actor Isabelle Hupert was conferred the prestigious 'Lifetime Achievement Award' for her remarkable artistic skills and outstanding contribution to Cinema. The Lifetime Achievement Award is one of the highest honour and the most prestigious award of the festival. The award carries a citation and a cash prize worth Rs 10 lakh.
Isabelle Hupert is one of the most popular French actors of her generation. She has appeared in over 120 films since her debut in 1971. With 16 nominations, she was the most nominated actress for the César Award and she won the award twice for Best Actress in La Cérémonie and Elle. Isabelle Hupert gained international acclaim for her performance in Elle in 2016. She won a Golden Globe award in Best Actress category for her performance in the film and also won an Academy Award nomination in the ‘Best Actress’ category. Isabelle Hupert is also known to be one of the best stage actresses. With 7 nominations, she is the most nominated actress for the Molière Award. She was also the President of the Jury at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, from May 13-24, 2009. Isabelle Hupert is one of the only four women who have won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival twice. First, she won the award jointly with Jill Clayburgh for her role in Violette Nozière by Claude Chabrol in 1978 and the second time in 2001 for her role in the film, ‘The Piano Teacher’ by Michael Haneke. |
The 2019 edition of the International Film Festival of India marks the 50th year of the festival. The film festival is known to be one of the earliest film festivals in the Asian continent. The 50th International Film Festival of India will witness participation by over 200 films, chosen from 76 countries across the world. It would also feature 26 feature films and 15 non-feature films in the Indian panorama section. Over 10,000 people are expected to participate in this year’s golden jubilee edition. |
