Dec 1, 2014 16:16 IST

The Haryana government on 1 December 2014 announced that it will honour the two sisters, Pooja and Aarti, who single-handedly took on three molesters in a moving bus. The two sisters will be honoured and given cash awards on the occasion of Republic Day, 26 January 2015.

Incident
Three boys, identified as Kuldeep, Mohit and Deepak tried to molest both girls (sisters) in a moving bus of Haryana Roadways at Rohtak. Opposing to their action, the two sisters thrashed these men, while the co-passengers watched the whole incident.

Two of the molesters are Indian Army personnel and the third is a college student. They have been arrested and a case under section 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage woman's modesty) and section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against them.

After the incident, the Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that effective steps will be taken to ensure security of women passengers. He asked the director general of police (DGP) and the transport department to take steps to ensure safety and security of passengers, especially women, who travel in the Haryana roadways buses.

He also directed the bus driver and conductors to make sure that such incidents do not occur in future.
