Current Affairs 2018 English: Fake News (May 2nd week)

May 14, 2018 10:07 IST

The Union Government on April 3, 2018 revoked its earlier order of permanently cancelling the accreditation of a journalist if the person was found generating or propagating fake news. Post the decision, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting instituted a 10-member committee to regulate online portals, including news websites, entertainment sites and media aggregators. Most fake news in India spreads through the social media platform, WhatsApp. Its influence has grown as the spread of mobile phones increases internet availability around the country.
