Serena Williams won the Singles title of BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore 2014

Serena Williams of the US on 26 October 2014 won the Singles title of BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore 2014. In the finals held at Singapore Indoor Stadium, she defeated Simona Halep of Romania 6-3, 6-0.

With this win, she won the WTA Finals for the fifth time. Earlier, she had won the WTA Finals title in 2001, 2009, 2012 and 2013.

List of winners winning the maximum number of WTA titles
Martina Navratilova - eight titles (1978, 1979, 1981, 1983-86*)
Steffi Graf - five titles (1987, 1989, 1993, 1995, 1996)
Serena Williams - five titles (2001, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014)
Chris Evert - four titles (1972, 1973, 1975, 1977)
Monica Seles - three titles (1990, 1991, 1992)
Kim Clijsters - three titles (2002, 2003, 2010)

Serena already had won 18 Grand Slam Singles title, the last one being the US Open she won in September 2014. She is currently the world number one in women tennis and this she has achieved for the fourth time.

On the other hand, Halep is the first Romanian to reach the final of WTA finals and the eighth woman to achieve the feat while making her debut in the event for the top eight players of the year.

Women’s Doubles:
Sania Mirza (India) and Cara Black (Zimbabwe) won the WTA doubles title against Peng Shuai (China) and Hsieh Su-Wei (Chinese Taipei), 6-1, 6-0.
