South Korean Websites Hit by Cyber Attack; Various Official Websites Attacked
South Korea, in the month of June 2013 issued a cyber alert after various government websites were hacked.
South Korea, in the month of June 2013 issued a cyber alert after various government websites were hacked. Among various official as well as media sites which were hit by co-ordinated attack on 25 June 2013, was also the website of presidential office.
The Science Ministry of South Korea announced that the Government confirmed about the cyber attack on various websites including Blue House, by the unidentified hackers. The cyber attack also affected the website for the office for Government Policy Co-ordination, along with the media servers.
On all the hacked websites, the messages praising North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, as well as claiming the hacking collective Anonymous was responsible for this, was left.
Earlier, Anonymous had claimed earlier that it had vandalised and hacked the social networking profiles which were linked to North Korea. This was a part of its Operation Free Korea.
In the meanwhile, South Korea raised the cyber alert level, while also asking the citizens to check the cyber security. On 20 March 2013, cyber attacks were performed on six banks as well as broadcasters of South Korea which in turn had affected 32000 computers. It also disrupted the banking services.
North Korea too had announced that it suffered cyber attacks in the year 2009 and 2011.
