US to deny green cards to immigrants using public benefits

The Trump administration announced new rules on August 12 that aim to deny US citizenship and permanent residency to the immigrants who use public benefits such as food stamps, public health care and other public welfare services. Under the new rules, those already in the US and availing public benefits will be denied the opportunity of getting the green card. The rules come as a set back to the citizenship hopes of millions of migrants, mostly Hispanic, who work in the US for low wages and depend heavily on public welfare benefits.

The Supreme Court has refused an urgent hearing of a PIL on the security clampdown in Kashmir Valley. The petitioner Tehseen Poonawalla stated in his petition that he was not expressing any opinion on the revoking of Article 370 but simply seeking withdrawal of the curfew and restrictions on communication such as blocking of telephone lines, internet and news channels in Jammu and Kashmir.

MCC to review overthrow rules after Ben Stokes and Martin Guptill incident

Following the overthrow incident involving Ben Stokes and Martin Guptill in the ICC World Cup final 2019, the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club), custodians of the Laws of Cricket, said that they are considering reviewing overthrow rules in September 2019. England had needed nine runs from the last three balls in the ICC World Cup final 2019 to chase down the target of 241 runs set by New Zealand when a throw from Martin Guptill in the deep deflected off Ben Stokes’ bat and ran off for a four. 

Aishwarya Pissay becomes first Indian to win world title in motorsports

Aishwarya Pissay won the FIM World Cup in women’s category in Hungary, becoming the first-ever Indian to win a world title in motorsports. Aishwarya had finished all the rounds of the World Cup with an overall tally of 65 points. The FIM Bajas World Cup is Baja-style rally-raid racing, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) since 2012.
