'No First Use' Nuclear Policy: Know all about this doctrine

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh while paying homage to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Pokhran said that India has strictly adhered to ‘No first use’ doctrine. However, he also added that what happens in future depends on the circumstances. Rajnath Singh was in Pokhran to pay respects to late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his first death anniversary. Rajnath Singh’s tweet has started a fresh debate about ‘No first use’ doctrine.

World Humanitarian Day 2019: The world humanitarian day 2019 was observed on August 19, 2019 with the theme ‘Women Humanitarians’. The day is observed annually to pay tribute to the humanitarian aid workers who endanger their lives for humanitarian service as well as to rally support for the people affected by crisis across the world. Women make up a large number of people who endanger their own lives to save others. 

Former Bihar CM Jagannath Mishra passes away

Former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra passed away at a hospital in New Delhi on August 19, 2019. He was 82 and suffering from some health issues for several months. He was three-time Chief Minister of the state. Jagannath Mishra was the last Congress Chief Minister in the state of Bihar. On his demise, the current Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar declared a three-day state mourning.

India largest emitter of SO2 in world: Greenpeace

India is the largest emitter of anthropogenic sulphur dioxide in the world, as per the data released by environmental NGO Greenpeace on August 19, 2019. Anthropogenic sulphur dioxide is produced from burning of coal and it is known to largely contribute to air pollution. The main SO2 hotspots in India include Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Talcher and Jharsuguda in Odisha and Neyveli and Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

PM Modi inaugurates Mangdechhu hydroelectric power plant in Bhutan

Mangdechhu hydroelectric power plant in Bhutan was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. It is one of the major projects under Bhutan's initiative to generate 10,000 MW hydropower by 2020 with the support of the Government of India (GOI). Mangdechhu hydroelectric power plant project was touted as a Bhutan-India friendship project.
