The Union Government on 20 September 2017 informed that it is planning to start helicopter and smaller aircraft services to hilly areas, Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands. These services will start under the second phase of UDAN scheme.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said in Chennai that in the second phase, special consideration have been given to hilly areas, north-east, Andaman and Nicobar Islands to operate helicopters and smaller aircraft.
The Union Cabinet on 20 September 2017 approved the revamped Khelo India programme at a cost of Rs 1756 crore for the period 2017-18 to 2019-20.
This revamped programme aims at mainstreaming sport as a tool for individual development, community development, economic development and national development. It is an unprecedented Pan Indian Sports Scholarship scheme which will cover 1000 most talented young athletes each year across select sports disciplines.
Union Cabinet has approved increase of cost norms for supplementary nutrition provided in Anganwadis and for out of school adolescent girls under Integrated Child Development Services, ICDS. It will involve an additional investment of 12000 crore rupees over the next three years.
Mr. Jaitley said, the revised cost norms for children upto six years will be eight rupees, for adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers, it will be 9.50 rupees and for severely malnourished category 12 rupees will be given.
The Union Cabinet on 20 September 2017 approved merger and modernization of 17 Government of India Presses (GIPs) and into 5 units. The approval was given during a cabinet meet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
These modernised 5 Government press units will be located at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Minto Road and Mayapuri in Delhi; Nashik, Maharashtra and at Temple Street of Kolkata, West Bengal.
