Answers with Explanation

1. (a) 165

India has been elected as a member of the International Telecommunications Union Council for another 4-year term from 2019 to 2022. India secured 165 votes and ranked third among the 13 countries elected to the council from the Asia-Australasia region and eighth among the 48 countries elected to the council globally.

2. (c) China

India plans to resume exporting raw sugar to China beginning 2019, almost after a decade. The move is a part of a larger goal of shifting focus to the overseas markets to shed surplus stocks that have muted prices and created financial distress in the Indian sugar mills.

3. (b) Bihar

The state cabinet of Bihar has approved a proposal to pay Rs 25000 to every girl graduating in 2018 and onwards. The one-time payment will be made to every girl who graduated from the colleges of the state on or after April 25, 2018.

4. (c) Andhra Pradesh

The Union Cabinet has approved setting up of a Central Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh. The "Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh" will be set up in Relli village of Vizianagaram District as provided under the Thirteenth Schedule to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

5. (d) Geneva

The first Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health was held at the headquarters of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva on October 30, 2018. The theme of the two-day conference was: “Improving Air Quality, Combating Climate Change- Saving Lives”.

6. (c) New Delhi

The Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities, 2018 was inaugurated on November 9, 2018 in New Delhi by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Krishan Pal Gurjar. The three day event is being organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under the Social Justice Ministry to leverage IT skills among youth with disabilities and also to spread awareness about the application of Information and Computer Technology (ICT) in enhancing the quality of life of persons with disabilities especially in Asia-Pacific region.

7. (a) Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand celebrated its 18th Foundation Day on November 9, 2018. On the day, the region had become a state of the Union, after separation from Uttar Pradesh. In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he hoped that the state, which is a confluence of nature, progress and rich culture, will continue to set new records on the path of development.

8. (c) Faizabad

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on November 7, 2018 renamed Faizabad as Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram. The Faizabad district comprises the twin towns of Faizabad and Ayodhya on the banks of the river Saryu. Besides this, an airport in Ayodhya will be named after Lord Ram.

9. (d) Odisha


The Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik on November 6, 2018 launched the technology-driven and citizen-friendly ‘Mo bus’ service in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The Mo bus service has facilities including free wi-fi, CCTV surveillance, public information display system and on board announcements. The service will cover 9 routes in Bhubaneswar in the first phase.

10. (a) Anupam Kher

Veteran actor Anupam Kher was on November 3, 2018 honoured as a ‘Distinguished Fellow’ by IndiaGlobal. The fellowship was given at the 3rd IndiaGlobal Summit, which was held at the prestigious MIT Sloan School of Management in Boston, United States. Kher is a former chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
