TripAdvisor announced in June 2013 that it acquired GateGuru, the mobile resource for airport as well as flight information across the globe.
GateGuru is built on the combination of user-generated content as well as information from airports. The flyers can easily view the detailed maps as well as insights into gate locations, amenities, stores and restaurants on the airports. It also gives weather forecasts, real-time flight status as well as estimated security-wait time. GateGuru will complement the already-existing flight products of TripAdvisor.
Post-acquisition, GateGuru team will operate outside the New York City only and will report to the Bryan Saltzburg, General Manager-New Initiatives, and leader of the TripAdvisor flights products and SeatGuru brand.
It is important to note that in March 2013, Trip Advisor Inc had also bought Beeem Inc, which is responsible for development of Tiny Post, a photo captioning Application. In the year April 2013, it acquired New York based Jetsetter.com, which is the only private sale site for the hotel bookings.
TripAdvisor offers advice from the travellers apart from offering the travel choices and planning features along with the links that indicate towards booking tools. TripAdvisor is said to be the largest travel community in the world that has over 200 million unique monthly visitors and more than 100 million reviews as well as opinions that cover more than 2.5 million accommodations, tourist attractions as well as restaurants.
