The Union Cabinet of India on 23 May 2013 approved the proposal for creating 20751 additional posts in the Income Tax Department in various cadres. This means that there will be 1349 additional posts in IRS cadre as well as 19402 additional posts in non-IRS cadres.
The move will help the Income Tax Department in collection of more revenue, while at the same time providing better tax payers services.
Apart from this, additional expenditure of 449.71 crore Rupees per annum will be incurred on creation of these posts as well as upgradation of the existing posts. This extra expenditure will be compensated by increased revenue, which will be over 25000 crore Rupees per annum.
