Union Ministry of Environment and Forest launched online Environment clearance
Union Ministry of Environment and Forest launched the online environment clearances for industrial and infrastructure projects.
Union Ministry of Environment and Forest on 5 June 2014 launched the online environment clearances for industrial and infrastructure projects.
The online submission for terms of operation (ToR) and environment clearance proposals became effective from 5 June 2014. However, these processes will be made entirely online from 1 July 2014 to improve transparency in the system.
The new system will monitors stage wise approval and compliance mechanism. It will also ensure security of information while simultaneously maintaining transparency in dealings between the ministry and the applicant.
Under the online system, an applicant will be able to monitor stage-wise process of their application and there is a time limit for the entire process with stage-wise timelines.
Later the ministry may include the penalty provision if a delay at any stage remains unexplained.
The e-clearance mechanism is the first in a series of online approvals that the government proposes to put in place. In the next stage, forest clearances will be made online and work has begun to give mining-related approvals as well through the same route.
