Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Gulam Nabi Azad inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar on 26 February 2014. During inauguration an e-Card system was also introduced. e-Card system (also known as health card) will help the patients to know about the disease, doctor assigned and treatment.
Highlights of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar
• It is built over an area of 125000 square metre.
• It has three operation theatres (OTs), a recovery ward, four high dependant units.
• It has overall 978 beds.
• It has a 10-bed ICU along with 150 beds spanning different specialties.
• It started the OPD services in the basic disciplines of medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, dentistry and gynaecology in June 2013 which increased to 24 subsequently.
After the allocation of land by the state government, a satellite Centre of the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar will be established at Balasore.
Under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Sahayata Yojana (PMSSY), the Union Government has already approved establishing of four medical colleges at Balasore, Balangir, Koraput and Baripada in Odisha. Further, two medical collages, at Berhampur and Burla will be upgraded.
Including aforementioned and some other projects Union government has planned an investment of 1250 crore rupees for the health sector of Odisha.
