Uttar Pradesh Minister Chitranjan Swarup passed away

Uttar Pradesh (UP) Minister of State (MoS) for Parliamentary Affairs Chitranjan Swarup passed away on 19 August 2015 in Delhi following a prolonged illness. He was 70. He belonged to ruling Samajwadi Party.

He was a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Uttar Pradesh state assembly from Muzaffarnagar constituency.  He was elected as a MLA on a Congress ticket in 1974 for the first and later on a Bhaujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket in 2002 and 2012.

He had held various portfolios including Urban Development, Urban Employment & Poverty Alleviation, Water Supply, Muslim Waqf, Overall Urban Development, Minority Welfare and Haj in the UP government led by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
