Uttarakhand state government on 16 September 2011 announced a complete waiver of the state’s share of 25 percent of the VAT on petrol, bringing down petrol prices in the state by 78 paise per litre. 


Uttarakhand state was due to get 78 paise per litre as its share of 25 percent of VAT after union government decided to increase petrol prices. The petrol price had increased by Rs.3 per litre from Rs 66.10 to Rs .69.37 per litre will cost Rs 68.59 per litre after reduction of 78 paise. This would cost an extra burden of Rs 21.78 crores to state exchequer.
