Vikaram Sunderam won Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic of James Beard Awards 2014

Indian-American chef, Vikaram Sunderam won the prestigious James Beard Awards 2014.  Vikaram Sunderam was awarded as the Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic.  The awards are considered as the Oscars of the US food and beverage industry. The award was presented in New York on 5 May 2014.

Sunderam (47) has opened restaurant Rasika in Washington in 2005.  He was a native of Mumbai, joined the Taj Mahal Hotel group in 1985. He was in London for 14 years at the award winning Bombay Brasserie.

Another Indian-American, Vishwesh Bhatt was nominated for the category of Best Chef: South. Finally, Ryan Prewitt and Sue Zemanick won the Best Chef: South. Rayan  is chef and partner of Peche Seafood Grill in the New Orleans and Sue Zemanick is chef in Gautreau in New Orleans.

There are different categories in Best Chef of James Beard Awards 2014 and it includes Best Chef: Great Lakes; Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic; Best Chef: Midwest; Best Chef: New York City; Best Chef: Northeast;  Best Chef: Northwest; Best Chef: South.

About James Beard Food Awards
The James Beard Food Awards are considered as the top honours in American cooking. The awards are annually presented by the James Beard Foundation and the first awards were given in 1991. The award is cashless in nature.

The awards will covers the all aspects of the culinary industry includes chefs and restaurateurs to cookbook authors and food journalists to restaurant designers and architects.
