Waythamoorthy, an Ethnic Indian Malaysian minister resigned over betrayal

Feb 14, 2014 09:30 IST

P Waythamoorthy, a prominent ethnic Indian minister of Malaysia on 11 February 2014 resigned from the cabinet over the failure of government to fulfill its promises to protect the rights of minority groups in the Muslim-majority nation.

He is leader of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) and he resigned as a Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. This resignation is an apparent blow to the Malay-dominated government struggling to halt the slide in support from over 2 million ethnic Indians.
