The International Cricket Council (ICC) on July 1, 2018 inducted former Indian captain Rahul Dravid, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting and former England Women’s wicket-keeper Claire Taylor into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in a glittering ceremony in Dublin, Ireland. With the move, Dravid became the fifth Indian player to be named in the Hall of Fame.

India’s first-ever state-of-the-art e-waste recycling unit will come up in Bengaluru, which produces an estimated one lakh tonne of electronic waste a year. The Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET), a research institute that comes under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, will set up the unit in the next four months.

In a first, the Uttarakhand High Court has accorded the status of ‘legal person’ to the animals in the state. With the ruling, the entire animal kingdom in the state, including the avian and aquatic animals, will be treated as legal entities having a distinct persona with corresponding rights, duties and liabilities of a living person.

The Delhi government has launched 'Happiness Curriculum' for school students up to class 8. The special curriculum would include meditation, value education and mental exercises. It would involve a 'Happiness' period of 45 minutes for all students up to class 8 in the Delhi government schools.

Indian Naval officer Commander Abhilash Tomy has become the only Asian to be selected to participate in the prestigious Golden Globe Race (GGR), which commenced from Les Sables d’Olonne harbour in France on July 1. The race requires all the participants to sail around the world, single-handed and non-stop.

The Madhya Pradesh state government has launched an outstanding power bill waiver scheme and subsidised power scheme called ‘Sambal’ for labourers and poor families. Under Sambal Yojana, the Below Poverty Line families would be provided electricity at a cost of Rs 200 per month.

As per US State Department’s 2018 Trafficking in Persons Report, North Korea was tagged “worst human trafficking nation” for the 16th straight year, citing the use of forced labour. North Korea has been included in the Tier 3 category, which is the lowest ranking, along with China, Russia and Iran.
