Former Health Minister of Kerala KK Shailaja was on June 17, 2021 awarded the Central European University (CEU) Open Society Prize for 2021. The University’s highest honour was given to her at a virtual convocation of the University’s 30th Graduation Ceremony that was held from Vienna.

Jamsetji Tata, the founder of Tata Group, has emerged as the biggest philanthropist globally in the last century by donating $102 billion, according to the list of top 50 givers prepared by the Hurun Report and EdelGive Foundation. Tata is the only Indian in the top 10 list, ahead of others such as Bill Gates and his now-estranged wife Melinda who donated $74.6 billion, George Soros ($34.8 billion), Warren Buffet ($37.4 billion), and John D. Rockefeller ($26.8 billion).

The Delimitation Commission has been set up for J&K headed by Justice (retired) Ranjana Prakash Desai. The commission has been mandated to delimit the constituencies of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the provisions of part V of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 (34 of 2019) and the provisions of the Delimitation Act, 2002 (33 of 2002).

It established the Roll of Excellence to recognise the airports which, in the opinion of the passengers, have consistently delivered excellent services in the Airport Service Quality Survey.

India has launched its official Olympic Theme Song ahead of the Summer Olympics in July-August in Tokyo, Japan. The song is titled ‘Lakshya Tera Samne Hai' and it has been composed and sung by Playback Singer Mohit Chauhan.

Midfielder Manpreet Singh was on June 22, 2021 named captain of India's 16-member Olympic-bound men's hockey team. The experienced defenders, Birendra Lakra and Singh, have been named vice-captains of the team. This will be Manpreet's third Olympic Games.

Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce became the second-fastest woman after she ran the 100 meters in 10.63 seconds at the JOA/JAAA's Destiny Olympic meet in Kingston held on June 5, 2021. She now has the fastest time in 33 years and the fourth-best in history. She now stands behind Florence Griffith-Joyner, the 100-meters world record holder with a timing of 10.49 seconds.

Zhang Zhizhen has become the first Chinese man to qualify for Wimbledon in the Open era after he beat Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo 6-0 6-3 6-7(4) 7-6(6) in the qualifiers on June 24, 2021. Overall, the world No. 178 is the only fourth Chinese man to play singles in the main draw of a Grand Slam since the Open era began in 1968.
