WFI suspended international wrestling referee Virender Malik

Aug 7, 2014 16:00 IST

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on 4 August 2014 suspended international wrestling referee Virender Malik. He was suspended after he was arrested in Glasgow during the 2014 Commonwealth Games on charges of sexual assault.

The decision of his suspension was taken by the President of WFI, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. But the Federation would wait for details from Scotland police before making his ban, a permanent one. If the reports will satisfy the federation, then Malik will be suspended permanently from all national and international tournaments.

Apart from Virender Malik, Rajiv Mehta the secretary-general of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) was also arrested for alleged drunken driving and also without licence.
