20 June: World Refugee Day
The World Refugee Day was observed across the world on 20 June 2017 to commemorate the strength, courage, and perseverance of millions of refugees.
The Day also marks a key moment for the public to show support for families that are forced to flee for their lives each day.
The UN Refugee Agency launched the #WithRefugees petition in June 2016 to send a message to governments that they must work together and do their fair share for refugees.
The United Nations General Assembly on 4 December 2000 decided to observe the World Refugee Day on 20 June every year.
Moreover, on the same day of adoption of resolution, the General Assembly also noted that the year 2001 marked the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. The Day coincides with the Africa Refugee Day.
