IIT Delhi will conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) this year. GATE 2020 is a national level entrance exam held jointly by seven IITs and IISc Bangalore for admission to engineering colleges across India. Qualifying GATE is mandatory for anyone seeking admission to master’s and doctoral engineering programme. IIT Delhi had earlier released the official notification carrying important details pertaining to the engineering exam. As per the official notification, GATE 2020 will be held on February 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2020. GATE 2020 will be held for 25 subjects/ papers across different cities in the country and six cities outside India. The national-level entrance exam will be held in computer-based format in two sessions each day. Interested applicants can start applying from September 3, 2019, onwards. It is to be noted GATE 2020 applications will be available only. No offline mode or printout copy of the same will be entertained by IIT Delhi.

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2020

GATE 2020 aspirants must assure they meet the eligibility requirement of the entrance exam. No candidate will be able to register and appear for GATE 2020 without meeting the basic requirements. Candidates are advised to refer to the eligibility requirement before registering for the exam. They must meet the eligibility criteria mentioned below;

GATE 2020 Registration Process

Aspirants can register for the GATE 2020 exam online through the GATE online application processing system (GOAPS) on the official website. The application form must be submitted online where candidates will be required to fill personal, educational and professional details. Apart from the details, documents such as category certificate, qualifying degree and ID number must be uploaded online.

Interested applicants can apply from September 3, 2019, onwards. The last date to submit the application form is September 24, 2019. During the registration process, candidates can also select test city as per their choice.

GATE 2020 Admit Card

The admit card of GATE 2020 exam will be released by IIT Delhi on January 3, 2020 for all the candidates. Only those candidates who meet the eligibility requirement and complete the registration process will be able to download the GATE admit card. The admit card will be available in online mode only.IIT Delhi will not send the admit card by post to any individuals. Candidates will need to visit the official website and login to the account to download the GATE 2020 admit card.

Candidates will be required to enter their credentials such as enrolment number/ email address and password to access the admit card. It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to check the details mentioned on the GATE admit card. Any discrepancy found must be reported to the conducting authority. The GATE 2020 admit card will carry details such as candidates’ name, enrolment number, exam venue details, time and instructions to be followed on the exam day.

GATE Exam Pattern

As per the exam pattern of GATE, there are 25 papers or which the entrance exam is held. Candidates can take any one paper/ subject out of those 25 papers. The GATE 2020 exam will be held in computer-based mode where candidates will see questions on the computer screen. All the papers will be held for 3 hours i.e. 180 minutes. There will be 65 questions for a total 100 marks.

There will be two types of questions:

Multiple Choice questions- throughout the paper there will be MCQ type of questions worth 1 or 2 marks. These questions are objective in nature; each question will have four options of which one correct answer is to be selected. There will be a negative marking in these types of questions. For 1 mark MCQ, 1/3rd marks will be deducted whereas for 2 mark MCQ type questions, 2/3rd marks will be deducted.

Numerical Answer Type (NAT) - Here candidates will be required to enter answers in numerical value. There is no negative marking in the NAT type of questions.

GATE 2020 Answer Key

After conducting the exam, the answer of all the test papers will be released by various coaching institutes as well as IIT Delhi. With the help of the answer keys candidates will be able to gauge their performance and hence predict their tentative scores in the GATE 2020 exam.

GATE Result 2020

The result of GATE 2020 exam will be declared online on March 16, 2020, as per the official schedule released by IIT Delhi. The GATE Result will be declared online on the official website. Candidates can download their score card by entering their enrolment ID, email address and password. The result will include candidates’ scores and All India Rank. IIT Delhi will release their scorecard on the official website. The scores will be valid for the next three years from the date of GATE result.

Qualified students will be able to download their GATE scorecards between March 20 and May 31, 2020. The scorecards will be available in online mode only. No hard copies of the same will be sent to any candidate.

GATE 2020 Cutoff

A candidate must score equal of above the cutoff determined by GATE participating institutes. The cutoff is the minimum marks that a candidate must score in order to qualify the test and become eligible for admission to various engineering colleges across India.
