As per Turkey's disaster agency, around 1,121 people lost their lives due to the earthquake. Moreover, around 783 people lost their lives in Syria.
The death poll numbers are expected to rise just as rescuers struggle to save people from the mountains in the freezing weather.

The epicenter
First things first, discussing the epicenter of the earthquake becomes crucial to understand the complete situation. The epicenter of the very first earthquake was near Nurdagi in Gaziantep province. The second earthquake was surrounding Ekinozu which is near Kahramanmaras province. The third epicenter was near Goksun in the very same province.
The intensity
The earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria had a strong 7.8 magnitude. The earthquake hit central Turkey and northwest Syria
The damage
Around 2,200 people have been killed due to the tragic earthquake hitting Turkey and Syria. Thousands of people have been wounded too.
Why did the earthquake strike? The key reasons!
The Anatolian tectonic block is the reason behind the earthquake. Actually, the area where the earthquake hit lies along a seismic fault line known as the Anatolia tectonic block. This well-known tectonic block runs through eastern, central, and northern Turkey.
The Anatolia tectonic block is a seismically active zone. In recent years, there were not many earthquakes of magnitude 5 or higher. As per the USGS, only three earthquakes having a magnitude of over 6 or more have occurred in the region since the year 1970. The last major earthquake in the area occurred in the initial days of January 2020.
India’s reaction
India is offering its helping hand to the area, owing to the fact that India understands the pain of the people as Gujarat once too had to suffer the brunt of an earthquake. PM Modi addressed that India is a country that has gone through multiple natural calamities like earthquakes herself. Thus, the country is empathetic to the sorrows of the people of Turkey and Syria and would do all that is required and possible to aid Turkey and Syria.
“The PM said that we have seen what happened in Gujarat and it took years to build it, so we understand the pain of the people in Turkey and Syria. He said we have already sent a rescue team and they are on their way. If required, we will send more” addressed to PM Modi, to the BJP leaders.
The Prime Minister stood by his words. The very first batch of relief materials from India has reached the city of Adana in southern Turkey.
NDRF Search and Rescue Teams sent relief equipment from India to Adana, Turkey on Tuesday morning. These include trained dog squads, drilling machines, medical supplies, and other necessary equipment.
