Leading Wicket takers in Cricket World Cup

There is common perception that the cricket is all about the batsmen. But this is just a half truth. The game of cricket is all about the combination of the batsmen, bowlers and fielders. There are so many matches played where the bowlers have decided the result of the game.

In the Cricket World Cup the great bowler of Australia Glenn McGrath is known for his bowling accuracy and misery in terms of spending runs.  He is the leading wicket takers in the Cricket World Cups.

Glenn McGrath had participated in the Cricket World Cup between1996 to 2007. He had taken 71 wickets in the 39 innings at the very fine average of just 18.19 per wicket.
The second leading wicket taking bowler is former Sri Lankan spinner M. Muralitharan who had taken 68 wickets in the Cricket World Cup at the average of 19.63 per wicket.

Meaning of Average of the Bowler;

It is the ratio of runs conceded per wickets taken. In simple terms it means that how many runs are spent by a bowler to take a wicket. The lower the bowling average, the better the bowler is performing.

 In the top 20 leading wicket takers list Australia has 5 players, New Zealand has 4 players, Sri Lanka, South Africa and India has 3 players each, Pakistan has 2 players. It is very surprising that the originator of the cricket i.e. England does not have any players in the top 20 list of leading wicket takers.

In the top 20 list, Bret Lee of Australia is having best average of 17.97 per wicket. Bret Lee has taken 17 wickets in 35 innings. In the end it is expected that more Indian bowlers will perform well so that their name can also be included in the top 20 list.
