The Sahitya Academy is an organization committed to promoting Indian literature throughout the world and recognizes twenty four Indian languages. It gives 24 awards annually to literary works in the languages it has recognized and an equal number of awards for literary translations from and into the languages of India, both after a yearlong process of scrutiny, discussion and selection.
