UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM)
The UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) was created by the United Nation General Assembly on December 1976 for promoting the gender equality and women empowerment.
It provides financial as well as technical assistance to promoting women’s human rights, political participation and economic security. The organisational motives are to fight against violent acts against women and gender-biased violence. It also works on the uplifments of women condition and helps the state to incorporated women representation in the governance.
Historical Retrospect of UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM)
Previously, this organisation was called as the Voluntary Fund for the UN Decade for Women but it was expanded in February 1985 on the basis of mandate given by UN General Assembly. Since 1976 it has supported women’s empowerment and gender equality through its programme offices and links with women’s organizations in the major regions of the world.
