Border of India and Nepal is unique in the world because people of both the countries can cross it from any point. Both the countries have sustainable trade and international relations.

Indian states that share border with Nepal are Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim, West Bengal and Bihar. Out of these, Uttar Pradesh shares the longest international border with Nepal.

Let us tell you that the border was formed after the Sugauly treaty of 1816 between Nepal and the British Raj. On 15 August, 1947 after the Independence from British Raj it came into its current shape. In 1950 Indo-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship took place.

  1. Uttar Pradesh:

Uttar Pradesh is the largest state of India. It lies in the north-central part of the country.

- To the north it is bounded with Nepal.

- To the east it is bounded by the state of Bihar.

- To the southeast it is bounded by the state of Jharkhand and Chhatisgarh.

- To the south it is bounded by the state of Madhya Pradesh.

- To the west it is bounded by the states of Rajasthan, Haryana and national capital Delhi.

On 26 January, 1950, Uttar Pradesh got its name and India became republic. Its capital is Lucknow. Its area is 240, 928 sq. Km and population according to 2011 census is 19,95,81,477. Uttar Pradesh is divided into two distinct regions Southern Hills and Gangetic Plain. The main occupation is agriculture that is around 66% of the population of state practice agriculture. The net cultivated area in the state is 164.17 lakh hectares.

  1. Uttarakhand

On 9 November, 2000 Uttarakhand was formed and became the 27th State of India.

- The State shares international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east.

- To the north-west, it is bounded with Himachal Pradesh.

- To the south, it is bounded with Uttar Pradesh.

Uttarakhand is located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges and is a large hilly State. Its area is 53,483 sq km and according to 2011 census total population is 10,116,752. West Bengal is located in the eastern part of India.

- To the north, it is bounded by Bhutan and state of Sikkim.

- To the east, it is bounded by Bangladesh.

- To the northeast, it is bounded by the state of Assam.

- To the south, it is bounded by Bay of Bengal.

- To the north-west, it is bounded by Nepal.

- To the west, it is bounded by the state of Bihar.

West Bengal was formed on 26 January, 1950. Its area is 88,752 sq km and according to census 2011, population is 9,13,47,736/ Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal. Languages spoken are Bengali, Hindi, English and Nepali. State animal is fishing cat, state bird is White-throated Kingfisher, stet tree is Devil tree and state flower is Night-flowering Jasmine. According to 2011 census, literacy rate is 86.43%. West Bengal is India's third largest metropolitan city.

Bihar state is located in the eastern part of the country. It is a land-locked state.

- To the north, it is bounded by Nepal.

- To the north-east, it is bounded by West Bengal.

- To the south and south-east, it is bounded by Jharkhand.

Patna is the capital of Bihar. Its total area is 94,163,00 sq km. According to 2011 census, population is 10,38,04,637. Languages spoken by most of the people are Hindi, Urdu, Bihari languages of Bhojpuri, Maithili and Magahi. Around three-fourth population of Bihar practice Agriculture.

Sikkim is located in the north eastern part of the country and is one of the smallest state of India.

- To the north and north east, it is bounded by the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.

- To the south east, it is bounded by Bhutan.

- To the south, it is bounded by West Bengal.

- To the west, it is bounded by Nepal.

Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim. Its area is 7096 sq km and according to 2011 census its population is 607,688. Tribal groups those are prominent are the Bhutia, the Lepcha and the Limbu. They all speak Tibeto-Burman languages and practice Mahayana Buddhism as well as indigenous Bon religion.
