The Assam Secondary Education Act came into existence in the year 1962. The main idea behind passing the act was to provide for the establishment of a Board of Secondary Education to regulate, supervise and develop Secondary Education in the state of Assam. Popularly known as AHSEC, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council is the primary custodian of high school level education in the state. The AHSEC looks after the development, promotion, monitoring and expansion of high school education in the state for students’ up to Class 10. The Board also organises the annual Assam High School Leaving Certificate (HS) Exam every year in the month of February-March.
