The Assam Chief Minister had earlier urged students to get themselves vaccinated before the Assam Board Exams 2022 commence for the class 10 and 12 students. Yesterday, however, Minister Himanta Boswa Sarma expressed that the state board will not be stopping unvaccinated students from appearing for the Assam Board 10th and 12th examinations.
Assam Education Department senior officials have stated that 18 percent of the students in the age group of 15 to 18 have been fully vaccinated and over 90 percent of the students from the age group have received the first dose of their COVID vaccinations.
Students asked to vaccinate as precaution
The state government will however be requesting the board examinees to get themselves vaccinated before the exams so that by the time the exams commence, the students are fully vaccinated. The Assam CM when speaking at a press conference stated that if the students take the vaccine now, the double dose will be completed before the board exams begin.
Assam state government has earlier mentioned that the students must be vaccinated thoroughly before the exams but since the students cannot be forced to get vaccinated, the board has stated that they won't stop the unvaccinated students from taking the exams as the Union Government has told the SC that vaccinations are not voluntary.
An awareness campaign has also been launched in the schools to bring all the students appearing for the exams for their vaccinations. State Nodal Officer for COVID-19 Vaccination has requested all the board examinees to get themselves vaccinated.
