Assam HSLC Result 2020: State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that the Government will be awarding cash prizes instead of laptops to students who performed well in Assam HSLC 2020 results. Students who scored star marks or 75% and above in Assam Class 10 results 2020 will be given Rs. 20,000 each instead of the earlier practice of giving away laptops. The Education Minister was quoted saying in a press conference that instead of providing computers as many parts of which come from China and other countries and are also difficult to source during the pandemic, the Government will be depositing Rs 20,000 in the bank account of each student.
As per the official data shared by the Education Minister, a total of 16,944 students have scored star marks and above in HSLC results 2020, of which the bank details of 16,648 students have already been gathered. He also added that the state government does not install the latest software such as Microsoft Windows in the computers, and as such most of the students end up changing their laptops. Mr Sarma said that the Government plans to roll out the money for the scheme on 12th September citing that a total of 33-34 crores will be required for the same.
In his social media handle, the Education Minister shared that, as initiated by the MoS, P&D and himself in 2005, the Anandaram Barooah Award provided a laptop each to students who secured 1st division in HSLC Exam. This year, however, due to COVID-19 an amount of Rs 20,000 will be given to students by DBT to each of the 16944 students by 15th September 2020 instead of procuring laptops.
