Bhagalpur Engineering College closed for 22 days, all students asked to vacate hostels

Amid ongoing tension in Bhagalpur College of Engineering (BCE), the authorities have ordered to close the college till September 22 and asked all the college students to vacate the hostels. According to reports, the college officials have taken this step to avoid any untoward incident on the campus which has witnessed ruckus in the past few days. The development comes after college principal was attacked by a group of students. Reports suggest that college authorities have lodged an FIR in which 11 students have been named.

Earlier, principal secretary, department of science and technology, Harjot Kaur Bamhrah and department director Atul Sinha reportedly scolded some students involved in the attack. Hours later one of the student allegedly made a suicide attempt by hanging him himself inside his hotel room. He was also one of the accused named in the FIR. He was rushed to Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH). He was saved by the doctors but his situation remained critical and hence referred to IGMS-Patna.

The incident had enraged students of the hostel who attacked police present in the hostels. However, the police present their soon managed to disperse the unruly mob. Large police force has been deployed in the hostels to ensure that each and every student follows the order of vacating the hostel. College principal said that some vested interest, who does not want implementation of any reforms, is trying to disturb the peace on the campus. Bhagalpur SSP Ashish Bharati said that they are keeping a tab on the situation on campus and trying to find out culprits who tried to foment trouble.
