The Colleges under state universities with empty seats in college UG Courses can admit students till August 31, a notification issued by the higher education office stated. The colleges had at first set July 10 as the due date for finishing the affirmation technique. The state government broadened the date till August 20 following reports that numerous seats were lying empty in universities over the state.
Education minister Partha Chatterjee had announced on Monday that universities would be permitted to begin a fresh round of admission from Tuesday. There are around 3 lakh undergrad seats, of which more than 40,000 are empty, sources in the instruction division said. Minister Chatterjee has advised the universities to guarantee that the confirmations are directed just based on merit.
Earlier the Telegraph reported that Chatterjee said, "There are reports that seats have remained vacant in several colleges. The colleges where seats have not been filled up can start fresh admissions. A notification will soon be issued announcing the next deadline.”
Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University Sonali Chakrabarti Banerjee stated that the institution was not aware of the decision to hold fresh admissions. She said colleges would be asked to arrange special classes for those who join late.
